The following letter was written by CUPE Local 79 President Tim Maguire and sent to the City of Toronto’s Planning and Growth Management Committee. Modified versions were sent to the Chair of Metrolinx and the Premier of Ontario (posted subsequently). It expresses Tim’s views that road tolls are not a fair way to make up for funding shortfalls. This is a submission as part of the “Toronto Talks Transportation” process.
There is an urgent need to open additional shelter space to reduce the pressure on the system, improve its responsiveness, and ensure that no one is left out in the cold.

This deputation was given to the City’s Budget Committee by Local 79 President Tim Maguire. In it, Maguire lays out the most glaring problems with the 2013 Capital & Operating Budgets.
In this letter to the members of the City’s Executive Committee, CUPE Local 79 President Tim Maguire critiques the recommendation to close the Toronto Energy Conservation Fund and the Toronto Green Energy Fund.
